Chemistry Day
Each year, the chemistry program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College sponsors chemistry day. The goal is to bring an additional chemistry experience to high school students for educational enrichment and to showcase their chemistry knowledge and abilities.
The program begins with chemical demonstrations provided along with the explanations of the chemical principles. The demonstrations presented to the students are typically unavailable to high school teachers due to financial and safety limitations.
Throughout the day, students participate in two hands-on laboratory experiments and one jeopardy-like knowledge based competition. This was followed by a seminar highlighting the many career possibilities in the field of chemistry. The day tests their skills outside the classroom, but also exposes them to facilities and equipment not available in high school setting. The day concludes with the presentation of the Chemistry Day Cup to the winning team.
Chemistry Day is held each May. Interested teachers should contact, Tracy Halmi (tracy@psu.edu) for more information.
